The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Office of Climate and Energy has developed the progressive MI Healthy Climate Plan to pursue carbon neutrality, ensure economic competitiveness, and improve quality of life.
Highlights Include:
- Building infrastructure to support 2 million electric vehicles on Michigan roads by 2030 and increase access to clean transportation options by 15% each year.
- Includes funding for Great Lakes EV circuit, which is a collaboration with three other states to build chargers along a 1,100+ mile drivable shoreline of Lake Michigan.

- RIVIAN – EV automaker and tech company with the HQ in Plymouth, Oakland County. One of the region’s five unicorn companies, raising $1.5 billion in funding. The focus is EV trucks and SUVs with production starting in Aug. 2021.
- MAY MOBILITY – an Ann Arbor startup in Washtenaw County, develops and operates electric and self-driving shuttles, which has launched in various cities. The company raised $83.6 million with Toyota Motor Corp as the lead investor.

DTE and Consumers Energy both are leading companies in the region with large user electric rates that are increasing electrification competitiveness in Michigan.
Highlights Include:
- DTE – Michigan’s Clean Energy Future, plans to be net zero plan to reduce emissions by six million metric tons per year by 2050.
- Consumers Energy – Leading the nation with plans to be zero coal by 2050. The clean energy plan includes more than 8,000 mw of solar power and more than 550 mw of battery storage by 2040.
